Prop-firm risk on one page

1. The sizing rule

Real risk capital = account balance − drawdown floor

Max risk per trade = remaining buffer × 10% (e.g. $2,500 × 10% = $250)

Contracts = max risk ÷ (stop in points × $ per point), rounded down

Recalculate from the remaining buffer after every losing day. Keep your own daily stop well inside the firm's limit.

2. The four drawdown types

Intraday trailing (peak)

Follows your highest balance in real time, including open profit.

Watch: Floating gains you give back still raise the floor.

End-of-day trailing

Recalculated from the closing balance once per day.

Watch: Intraday spikes don't move it; a bad afternoon still counts.

Static / fixed floor

Stays at one fixed balance and never moves.

Watch: Simplest to manage; profit becomes extra cushion.

Locking / step-up

Trails until it reaches a set level, then stops.

Watch: Until it locks, treat it like a trailing floor.

3. The unrealised profit trap

On intraday trailing: run to +$800 open, exit at +$100 → balance +$100, floor +$800. You lost $700 of room on a winner. Plan where you take profit or trail.

4. Consistency maths

Required total = best day ÷ consistency %

$2,000 best day at 50% → you need $4,000 total. Steady size beats one oversized win.
